Water Heater Replacement and Repair in Kingston and Brockville

Last updated: October 20, 2026

When a water heater fails you have three choices: another storage tank, a tankless unit, or a heat pump water heater. Natural Resources Canada says ENERGY STAR tankless models can save about 30 percent more energy than standard storage tanks, and heat pump models use up to 50 percent less energy than a standard electric water heater. If your heater is rented, check the contract before you replace it. Ontario also limits door-to-door water heater sales and gives you a 10 day cooling-off period. Local plumbers and heating companies that list water heater work are below. We do not publish prices because we could not source reliable local ones.

Which plumbers and heating companies list water heater work?

These are the businesses whose own listings name water heaters or hot water. A listing is not a recommendation, and we have not ranked them. Ask each for a written quote.

Gananoque: we do not yet have a Gananoque listing that names water heaters. See listing lists plumbing and heating, so ask when you call.

Should you choose a tank, tankless or heat pump water heater?

Natural Resources Canada describes the options in its guide to residential water heaters (updated June 10, 2025):

NRCan advises sizing the unit to your household's hot water needs and asking a plumber to help estimate them. A more efficient model can cost more up front and pay back through lower energy costs. It also says to hire a licensed professional to install the new unit.

Should you repair or replace a water heater?

NRCan does not give a lifespan in years, so check the manufacturer's date on the tank's label and your warranty. If the unit is leaking from the tank, ask the plumber whether a repair is possible before agreeing to one. Get the repair and replacement quotes in writing and compare them.

What are the rules on rental water heaters in Ontario?

Consumer Protection Ontario lists water heaters among the products that generally cannot be sold at your home unless you start the transaction. The Province says you have a 10 day cooling-off period, starting when you receive a written copy of the agreement, to cancel without giving a reason. If you asked for the installation before the 10 days ended, you may still owe costs such as rental payments that are due. See the Province's page on door-to-door sales and home service contracts (updated June 19, 2026).

Before you replace a rented heater, find your rental contract and ask the supplier what ending it will cost. If you are buying a home, check whether a rental water heater comes with it.
