Who does furnace repair in Kingston?

The contractors on this page are the Kingston heating and cooling companies we list. Read each listing's services for furnace repair, furnace service or propane, then call two or three and describe the problem: the furnace type (gas, oil, propane or electric), its age and what it is doing. Ask what a service call costs and whether it covers the first part of the diagnosis.

What should you check before calling for furnace repair?

  • The thermostat is set to heat and set above the room temperature, and its batteries are not dead.
  • The furnace power switch is on and its breaker has not tripped.
  • The filter is not clogged. A blocked filter can make a furnace overheat and shut itself off.
  • The furnace door panel is closed properly. Many furnaces will not run with it off.

If you smell gas, do not touch switches. Leave the house and call your gas utility's emergency line or 911 from outside.

Should you repair or replace your furnace?

Ask the technician for a written diagnosis and, if the unit is older or has failed more than once, a replacement quote at the same visit. Our furnace repair or replace guide covers the usual rules of thumb, heat pump vs furnace compares the options if you replace, and how to verify an HVAC contractor shows how to check TSSA registration before anyone works on gas. Replacing a hot water tank instead? See our water heater replacement and repair guide.

How often should a furnace be serviced in Ontario?

Natural Resources Canada says oil-fired furnaces and boilers need annual cleaning and tuning, and that natural gas and propane furnaces and boilers should be serviced at least every two years. The Province of Ontario recommends that fuel-burning appliances, chimneys and vents be cleaned and inspected by professionals every year before cold weather sets in. Ask your heating company which applies to your unit.

Do you need carbon monoxide alarms if you have a furnace?

Yes. Since January 1, 2026, Ontario requires carbon monoxide alarms on every storey of a home that has a fuel-burning appliance, a fireplace or an attached garage, and next to each sleeping area. If an alarm sounds, get everyone outside and call 911 from outside. Our furnace repair guide for Kingston, Brockville and Gananoque has the details and the sources.

Frequently asked questions about HVAC contractors in Kingston

How do I choose an HVAC contractor in Kingston?

Gas work in Ontario must be done by a TSSA-registered contractor using TSSA-certified gas technicians. You can check a contractor's registration with TSSA's online lookup tool.
